5 Things to Know in Murrieta Today: June 21

1.) Today is the summer solstice, the day the sun is farthest north, and the official start to summer! And if yesterday wasn’t hot enough for you, today should be! According to the National Weather Service, it will be sunny with a high near 91. Tonight will be a clear night with a low near 62. No pool at home? Stay cool by stopping by the community pool at . Open swim is from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Adults get in for $2 and children for $1.

2.) Interstate 215 between Scott Road and Murrieta Hot Springs will experience lane closures in both directions, according to the Department of Transportation. The 
southbound number two lane will be closed from 9 p.m. tonight until 5 a.m. tomorrow morning. The northbound number two lane will be closed from 10 p.m. tonight until 6 a.m. tomorrow morning. The lane closures are due to drainage work in the area and will continue through Friday. Stay up to date on I-215 closures at i215project.info/south.

3.) Murrieta City Council meets tonight at 6 p.m. On the agenda are citizen appointments to the Planning, Library Advisory, Traffic, Community Services and Historic Preservation Advisory commissions. Applicants are set to be interviewed by the council during a workshop at 5 p.m. Also, a public hearing will be held regarding raising the City Manager's ability to settle worker's compensation claims from $25,000 to $50,000. 4.) Bring your appetites and children to in Murrieta between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. for free ice cream sundaes! Located at 24794 Madison Ave., children ages 12 and younger will have the opportunity to make their own ice cream sundae, complete with goodies like gummy bears and chocolate sauce.
