The suspect in at least four bank robberies, including the Oct. 24 attempted robbery of Bank of America in Murrieta, has been apprehended at the U.S. Border with Mexico, authorities said Tuesday.

A warrant was issued for the arrest of Raymundo Ramirez, 21, of Hemet after he was identified as the suspect in a Sept. 27 robbery at Bank of America, 26800 Cherry Hills Blvd., in Menifee, according to Sgt. Victor Tejada of the Perris sheriff's station.

"With the assistance of the Hemet Sheriff's Station criminal analyst, investigators identified the suspect...," wrote Tejada and fellow sheriff's Sgt. Glen Williams, in a news release.

"Further investigation revealed the same suspect committed bank robberies between the months of April and October in the cities of Hemet, San Jacinto, Yucaipa and Murrieta."

The FBI pegged the suspect the Halo bandit because he was often caught on surveillance footage wearing an Angels baseball cap.

On Sunday, U.S. Border Patrol agents phoned Perris station investigators, informing them they had the suspect detained at the San Ysidro border crossing after he attempted entry back into the U.S., sheriff's officials said.

Ramirez was arrested by sheriff's investigators and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for robbery. He was being held on $60,000 bail, according to sheriff's jail records.

The investigation was continuing. Anyone with information regarding these robberies was encouraged to call Investigator Mark Alanis or Guy Gilbert with the Riverside Sheriff's Department/Perris Station at 951-210-1000.
