Garbage Truck Fire On I-215 Snarls Menifee Traffic

MENIFEE, CA — A garbage truck caught fire Wednesday on Interstate 215 in Menifee, snarling traffic as firefighters worked to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby vegetation.

The non-injury blaze was reported at 12:35 p.m. on northbound I-215 near Scott Road, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

Multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames in the rear of the vehicle, which had stopped on the shoulder of the freeway.

The driver had safely exited the truck.

Firefighters blocked a lane for public safety with the help of California Highway Patrol officers, according to reports from the scene.

The blaze was knocked down within 30 minutes, with no extension of the flames to the surrounding brush.

As of 1:10 p.m., crews were attempting to move the vehicle off the freeway.
