U.S. Border Patrol agents staffing the 15 Freeway checkpoint outside Temecula this week netted more than five pounds of methamphetamine worth about $105,000, officials said Friday.

The seizure occurred about 9:30 a.m. Monday, according to Mary Beth Caston, information officer for the Border Patrol.

The 19-year-old man was driving a 1994 Jeep Cherokee when agents became suspicious of his demeanor, Caston said.

"They're trained to watch for signs," Caston told Patch, adding that many times it begins with the failure to make eye contact.

The man was sent to an area for secondary inspection and let a dog around the vehicle to see if it could scent drugs, which it did, Caston said.

Agents found a bundle of methamphetamine hidden in the front of the vehicle, Caston said.

The methamphetamine weighed 5.25 pounds.

The suspect was taken into custody and was being held pending state charges.

Any prison time will be followed by deportation, Caston said.

The drugs were seized by the , as was the vehicle.
