Murrieta Athletes Raise Thousands to Help Fight Cancer
CrossFit Murrieta held its annual 'WOD for a Cause' competition to support City of Hope.

MURRIETA, CA — Athletes from across the community came together to compete and raise thousands in funds in a CrossFit competition recently held in Southwest Riverside County.
CrossFit Murrieta, located near French Valley Airport, held its third annual "WOD for a Cause" on Sept. 24 to benefit City of Hope, a cancer research hospital located in Southern California— raising more than $5,500 by the day's end, organizers say.
Over 75 members from the gym, or "box" as it's called, competed in three CrossFit-style workouts. Prizes were awarded to first, second and third places.

All money raised from registration, donations and sponsorships was given to City of Hope, according to local coach and businesswoman Hillary Crump, who helped put the event together.
"A founding member of CrossFit Murrieta, and now a beloved coach, Hillary Crump, lost her father to cancer last year," CrossFit Murrieta said. "He received excellent care at City of Hope before passing away. To honor Hillary's father and family, WOD for a Cause now focuses on donating to City of Hope, for the purposes of cancer research."

In addition to raising funds, dozens of the athletes and event attendees registered with the Be the Match bone marrow donation organization, who were on site for 'WOD for a Cause.'
"Overall, this event was a great success, all thanks to the athletes, participants, donors and small businesses who went out of their way to support it," CrossFit Murrieta said.
