Murrieta Firefighters Knock Down Car Blaze at Walmart
Fire officials say they were especially concerned with stopping the fire from spreading to the nearby solar panels.

Murrieta, CA – Murrieta firefighters this week worked to quickly contain a vehicle fire in the local Walmart parking lot-- and protect some important nearby equipment.
Murrieta Fire Capt. Matt Corelli says the fire was reported just after noon on Tuesday at the store, in the 41000 block of Murrieta Hot Springs Road.
"Upon arrival, the crews observed a vehicle with a completely involved engine compartment fire," he said Thursday. "Although vehicle fires are common responses for fire departments, they all have some unique circumstances and risks."

Corelli says that with this particular case, crews took special care to not damage any of the electrical components of nearby solar panels, under which the vehicle was parked.
"The new age of solar power has created many great opportunities for renewable energy, but has
also created some challenges that crews consider when fighting fires," the captain said. "The quick deployment of water and knock down of the fire stopped the radiant heat from damaging the solar panels and
destruction of the electrical components."

"Like many advancements that occur in technology, the fire service is also progressing to protect
the public and conserve property while adapting to these new challenges," Corelli added.
