Rig Flips On 215 Freeway, Hitting Van And Blocking Lane: CHP

The CHP reported that the truck struck a cargo van as it flipped over, damaging the smaller vehicle.

PERRIS, CA - A big rig hauling cement overturned on Interstate 215 in Perris Thursday, colliding with a van and partially blocking the freeway. The wreck was reported about 2:45 p.m. on northbound I-215, just north of Nuevo Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The agency said that the truck struck a cargo van as it flipped over, damaging the smaller vehicle. No cement was spilled in the crash.

The rig was blocking one of three lanes on the northbound side, according to the CHP.

Riverside County Fire Department personnel treated one person at the scene for unspecified injuries, but it was unclear whether that was the trucker, van operator or another victim.

As of 3:30 p.m., the CHP was arranging to have the vehicles towed.

The cause of the wreck was under investigation.
