It's Official: Van Gorder vs. Luce in Napa County Runoff

The final official vote count for Napa's June primary election brought no surprises for the District 2 county supervisors' race: Challenger Mark Van Gorder remained ahead of fellow city council member Juliana Inman, who also vied to unseat longtime incumbent Mark Luce.

With 1,911 votes (29 percent) to Inman's 1,856 (28 percent), van Gorder moves ahead to a November runoff against Luce, who received 2,806 votes (43 percent) in the primary.

According to a press release from the county elections office,

The additional ballots that were counted after Election Day and are now included in the Final Certified Results did not change the outcome of any contest published on Election Night even though vote margins did change.

“I am pleased that once again Napa County voters turned out in greater numbers than the statewide average with 42.9% of registered voters casting ballots,” said John Tuteur, Napa County Registrar of Voters.

In statewide voter turnout Napa County ranks in the top 10 counties having more than 50,000 registered voters.

Between Election Day and the release of the certified results on June 26, 2012, election staff and citizen poll workers processed and counted the additional ballots; duplicated 786 ballots that could not be read by the optical scanner; resolved 185 provisional ballots of which 87.6% were counted and conducted a manual tally of 1,041 ballots selected at random.

Final election results are available on the Napa County website, countyofnapa.org.
