Napa Valley Cricket Club heads to Philadelphia
Napa Valley CC heads to Philadelphia for tour game.

The Napa Valley Cricket Club heads to the “City of Brotherly Love” to renew both friendships and rivalries with Philadelphia Cricket Club this coming weekend. With Philadelphia CC having toured Northern California in September of 2013 the NVCC have taken up the invitation of a return game at their stunning ground in Willow Grove just 20 minutes from downtown Philadelphia.
“Part of the culture of cricket is an away trip either during or at the end of the season” explains NVCC vice-president Andrew Healy “and after our successful trip to Los Angeles last year to play Beverly Hills Hollywood CC we decided to take up the invite from the Philly boys and head to the East Coast”
Philadelphia CC is steeped in history and the cricket club was founded in 1854 which makes it not only one of the oldest in America, but also the world. The cricket plays second fiddle to tennis for a large part of the summer. As a result they play a truncated season that starts in late spring then gives way to tennis and when autumn arrives cricket starts again until the weather calls a halt in early November.

“It’s exciting to go and play at places likes St. Martin’s (the name of the clubhouse) as they have so much history and tradition that surround them” said Healy “and for a club like ours with only three years of history behind us it makes us realize what a wonderful game cricket is, as all are welcome”
The NVCC hope to overcome the commonly known problem of “Touring Team Syndrome” whereby touring teams invariably end up losing. The NVCC touring party has a day of sightseeing planned for this Friday with a meal at a restaurant customer of their sponsor Clos du Val scheduled for Friday evening. With only the one game planned for the weekend the NVCC hope to return to the West Coast with a win under their belts!
