Napa Valley Roasting Company: Take That, Starbucks

has fired the first salvo against Starbucks with a Slingshot Blend that it hopes will gain the upper hand in the battle between local coffeehosue versus corporate juggernaut.

According to this story in the San Francisco Chronicle, NVCR Company general manager Doug Dunlap has launched a Slingshot Blend that pokes fun at the popular coffee shop that plans to open up shop across the street in Downtown Napa.

The planned Starbucks , sparking much debate about the need of another Starbucks in Napa (the city has seven stores) and the character of the downtown core.

The new blend, according to the story, comes complete with a mascot -- a smiling bean that fires a slingshot into the air at a hovering green monster.

The monster is said to represent Starbucks, according to the SF Chronicle.

“During a brainstorming session, we pictured our small company confronted by a Godzilla-like creature” said Dunlap in the Chronicle's story. “This led us to the comforting thought of David and Goliath.”

The new blend is availabe at Napa Valley Roasting Company for $13.95 per 12-ounce bag, whole beans or ground.
