Meeting is Feb. 20 in American Canyon.

Thompson to Lead Talk on Concussions in Sports

 

U.S Rep. Mike Thompson, D-St. Helena, will host a community discussion on concussion identification and prevention on Wednesday, Feb. 20.

The free public forum will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. at American Canyon High School gym, 3000 Newell Road.

At this meeting, athletes, parents and coaches will have the opportunity to speak with experts about how to recognize a possible concussion, how to prevent serious head injuriesand how to respond to head injuries when they occur.

Panelists will be:

--Dr. Brian Freeto, Orthopeadic Surgeon, Napa Valley Orthopeadic Medical Group

--Rob Brandon, Physical Therapist, Owner Napa Valley Physical Therapy, Trainer, Napa Valley College

--Melissa Bartholemew, Athletic Trainer, Napa Valley College

--Jeff Turner, Athletic Director, Jesse Bethel High School Vallejo

Concussions and head injuries are happening with greater frequency each year across all sports.

More than 3.8 million sports and recreation-related concussions occur in the U.S. each year.
