22 Guns Seized During Domestic Violence Arrest

A man was arrested after police responded to a domestic dispute Tuesday night and found nearly two dozen firearms in his home.

Walter Johnston, 52, of Newark, was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence and making terrorist threats around 10:20 p.m., according to .

Police said officers responded to Jonathan Place, between Lafayette and Musick avenues, after the man reportedly injured a family member by striking the adult victim on the shoulder and hand with a belt.

The victim told officers that the man was an avid hunter and had numerous firearms. An emergency protective order was put into place.

Police said they took the victim and an 8-year-old child away from the residence then surrounded the home and called out to the man, who was arrested without incident.

Newark police said a total of 22 firearms were taken from the home. Semi-automatic shotguns, scoped rifles, assault rifles and handguns were among the firearms seized.

Police Cmdr. Michael Carroll said none of the firearms were stolen.

Johnston was arrested and booked into Fremont Jail, police said.
