Officer Neitherutt was patrolling NewPark Mall on a bike Saturday when he encountered April Hope, 38, and Jahan Kaccem, 43.

Kaccem was arrested on multiple outstanding warrants and lying to a police officer about his identity. Hope was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. The amount of meth they had is unclear, according to Newark Police Commander Michael Carroll. He said the officer used a chemical test similar to a litmus paper test to determine that the substance was methamphetamine. The meth was sent to a lab get weighed.

Teens busted for pot at the mall

Newark Police arrested Jose Saavedraruiz, 19, and Cristian Sanchez, 19, at NewPark Mall at about 10:40 p.m. on Saturday night. Authorities charged them with possession of less than 28.5 grams of marijuana. Another charge of possessing a usable amount of methamphetamine is pending. If convicted they face a fine of $100 for the marijuana.


Drivers hit the road while intoxicated

David Bradford, 49, was arrested at the intersection of Mowry and Cedar at about 9 p.m. on Friday for driving while intoxicated. He was sent to Santa Rita Jail to dry out.

Later that night Officer Ramos stopped Gregory Phipps, 58, by JC Penny’sfor driving under the influence of a controlled substance.  At about 1 a.m., he was sent to Santa Rita Jail.

Two other people were arrested that night for driving while intoxicated and getting into car accidents.

On Monday, Newark Police arrested Joseph Hamilton, 50, by the old Mervyn’s,located in the 5600 block of Mowry Avenue, at about 3 p.m. on Monday for being in possession of narcotics.  Police said he possessed pills of an undetermined sort. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail. Dorothy Vigil, 50, was also arrested at the scene.
