Newark Police Hub to Open at NewPark

The facility will serve as a place where community members can learn about the department's programs

Newark Police Hub to Open at NewPark

Newark police officers will be visiting NewPark Mall more often — to volunteer time to educate community members about the Newark Police Department's programs.

The Newark police facility at the mall is a way sworn officers and Newark police volunteers can educate residents about the various ways they can become involved with community programs that are overseen by the Newark Police Department, said Sgt. Chomnan Loth.

“It’s a plan to form a community engagement center,” Loth added.

Residents will be able to collect brochures and talk with police department personnel once the center opens. Some community programs they might be able to learn about include the Neighborhood Watch program and Newark police’s community policing program, which is known as R.A.V.E.N.

The time line of when the facility will open is unclear but Loth said the department is aiming for an opening in the next few weeks. He added that there won’t be dedicated times or days of operation hours at the center but that police hope to have it open often.
