No Injuries In Newark House Fire

Thornton Avenue was closed for a time as firefighters battled the flames.

NEWARK, CA — A Newark house fire that forced the closure of Thornton Avenue for a time Friday morning has been extinguished. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters responded to the 36800 block of Locust Street at 8:10 a.m., finding an outside fire that extended into a bedroom and attic space of the residence, according to Aisha Knowles, a spokeswoman for Alameda County Fire. Firefighters put out the flames in about 20 minutes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Red Cross has been asked to help the displaced residents, who were not at home at the time of the fire.

The Newark Police Department, Paramedics Plus and PG&E also responded to assist with the incident, Knowles said.
