Vehicles Destroyed In Newark Fire

A sprinkler system is credited for preventing the spread of the fire.

NEWARK, CA —A vehicle fire damaged a commercial property in Newark early this morning, according to Alameda County fire officials.

The blaze was first reported at 2:13 a.m. at 5511 Central Ave.

Three trucks caught fire in front of a business and the blaze spread to the exterior of the building, according to Alameda County Fire Department spokeswoman Aisha Knowles.

A sprinkler system helped prevent the fire from getting into the building's interior.

A second alarm was declared as a precaution after the fire extended into a neighboring lumberyard and cabinet shop, but the blaze was extinguished in about 15 minutes.
