1 Dead In Car Fire In Costa Mesa: Police

The incident prompted authorities to shut down the intersection of 17th Street and Newport Boulevard early Friday morning.

COSTA MESA, CA — One person died in a car fire in Costa Mesa on Friday, authorities said.

Costa Mesa firefighters were called to the scene just after 5 a.m. at the intersection of 17th Street and Newport Boulevard, according to the Costa Mesa Police Department.

Firefighters found the car totally engulfed in flames with one person inside of the vehicle, according to the report. The victim died at the scene and their identity was not released.

The crash prompted authorities to close the intersection for hours Friday morning.

The cause of crash remains under investigation. No further information was immediately available.
