1 Killed, 2 Injured After Car Crashes Into Parked Box Truck In Newport Beach

The crash was reported just after 8 p.m. at 3334 westbound Pacific Coast Highway on Sunday night.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A driver was killed and two passengers were critically injured after a Mercedes-Benz crashed into the rear of a parked box truck in Newport Beach Sunday night.

The crash was reported just after 8 p.m. at 3334 westbound Pacific Coast Highway, according to the Newport Beach Fire Department.

All westbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway between Hoag and Riverside drives were closed for several hours while police investigated the scene.

Newport Beach Police Lt. Michael Shiavi told the Orange County Register that the Mercedes-Benz was occupied by two men and a women. After crashing into the parked box truck, the driver and two passengers were trapped inside the car. The driver was pronounced dead, he said.

No one was in the box truck at the time of the crash, and the cause of the crash is currently being investigated.
