UPDATED Commuter Alert: Brush Fire Shuts Down 91

A brush fire that scorched a power pole and threatened power lines forced the shutdown of the Riverside (91) Freeway in both directions at Raymond Avenue this afternoon.

Just before 1 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers closed the freeway near the city line of Anaheim and Fullerton because of the power line hazard, CHP Officer Denise Quesada said. The westbound lanes were reopened about 1:45 p.m., and two of the eastbound lanes were reopened about 2:30 p.m.

The fire broke out about 12:30 p.m. on the hillsides next to the freeway and was knocked down about 2 p.m., Anaheim police Lt. Bob Dunn said. The blaze was mostly on the south side of the freeway, though there are also "some issues" on the north side, Dunn said.

No power lines were downed, but an electrical pole was damaged. No outages were reported, said Southern California Edison spokesman Robert Villegas.

East Street was expected to be closed until shortly before 5 p.m. as Edison workers replaced the torched pole, Dunn said.

The flames briefly threatened a mobile home park, which was evacuated, but residents were allowed to return just before 2 p.m., Dunn said.

Flames spread to a few sheds with brush on them, but the fire was quickly extinguished, Dunn said.

This is one of several big fires in the area:
