A man was arrested over the weekend for allegedly robbing a Subway in Newport Beach, a police official reported.
Edward Rendon, 32, of Los Angeles was arrested on Friday on suspicion of robbery near the Subway located at 2727 Newport Blvd. Police spokeswoman Kathy Lowe said at about 5:50 p.m., Rendon walked into Subway and passed a note to a store employee demanding money.
Lowe said the employee refused to give up any money and instead told another employee to call police.
"The suspect initially asked for three cookies which the employee placed on the counter," Lowe said. "The suspect then produced the note and fled with the cookies after the employee denied him the cash."
Rendon was taken into custody a short time later by police.
No money was taken in the robbery and no one was injured, Lowe said.
