Police Join Task Force Aimed at Nabbing Child Predators

In an effort to make the Internet a safer place for children, the Newport Beach Police Department has joined the  Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

The task force was created to assist state and local law enforcement agencies with effectively responding to cyber enticement and child pornography cases, and to secure criminal prosecutions of online child predators. The help includes training and technical assistance, investigation tools, victim services and community education.

The task force, one of more than 60 across the nation, is coordinated by the Los Angeles Police Department and is made up of several Orange County law enforcement agencies. The task force program was created in 1998 and is funded by a federal grant through the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
