Art Off the Streets

Graffiti art meets fine art at an exhibition at Cella Gallery in North Hollywood.

Last Friday, Cella Gallery on Burbank Boulevard in North Hollywood was bustling with artists young and old for the opening night of Scaling the Wall. The exhibition, curated by Trina Calderón and Miah Jeffra, encouraged graffiti artists to have a conversation with fine artists. Some of the artists used pseudonyms to credit their work, as a few of the graffiti artists are not "out" yet. The exhibition included a series of black and white photographs that document street art and graffiti art in Los Angeles.

There is an ongoing auction for the wood panels, and proceeds will benefit non-profit organization ArtStorm, which provides resources for graffiti artists. Currently, the exhibition is by appointment only, but this Saturday there will be a viewing from 12-4 p.m. The exhibition runs through April 17.

See the About Town column for a full report on the opening night.
