Police Arrest Man, 21, in Fatal Chatsworth Hit-and-Run Crash that Killed 2

LOS ANGELES, CA - Police today said they have arrested a 21-year-old motorist on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter for allegedly fleeing the scene on foot from a two-vehicle crash near Chatsworth, where another driver and his passenger were killed.

Dylan Shane Rutherford was arrested and his passenger, an unidentified woman, was detained but later released, according to Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section.

Lopez said he had no place of residence for Rutherford.

The hit-and-run crash was reported at 10:30 p.m. Friday near the intersection of De Soto Avenue and Chatsworth Street.

Rutherford, driving a black Ram 1500 truck eastbound on Chatsworth Street, struck a 1991 maroon GMC pickup truck that was going northbound on De Soto Avenue, Lopez said.

Police said the crash caused the GMC to overturn and catch fire with two people trapped inside.

The Los Angeles Fire Department pronounced the victims, two men in their 40s, dead at the scene.

The Ram truck was abandoned at the scene by Rutherford and his passenger, who were seen fleeing on foot going north on De Soto Avenue, according to LAPD Officer R. Carter.

Officers responding to the scene were able to search and find Rutherford, as well as his passenger, Lopez said.
