One of the most unique fundraisers in recent history comes around again for a second year: the Pleasant Valley Coop Tour. Did you see "coop" and think some kind of co-op for kids? (Editor's note: I'm guilty) Or did you see "coop" and start crowing (or clucking)? If you did the latter, you've done it right.

This Sunday, Sept. 9, is the second annual PV Coop Tour, where you can join in a self-guided tour of backyard chicken coops and fabulous gardens all around the Pleasant Valley community. Learn everything there is to know about getting your own backyard coop up and pecking or just get a glimpse of what a life with chickens can be all about.

There will be loads to learn about chicken care, beekeeping, composting and more at the school beginning at 10 a.m. The touring begins at 11 a.m. There's even lunch to be had.

According to insiders, not only is it a whole lot of fun, the tour "really celebrates organic, sustainable, local farming and community."

All monies raised are earmarked to enable all of the students a chance to take part in the outdoor education program at Walker Creek regardless of financial ability. The folks are shooting even higher this year, hoping to add another 20 additional fruit trees and winter vegetables to the school's existing garden.

You can find out more by visiting the Coop Tour's website.

While I'm on the subject of Pleasant Valley, the school also has a Dine & Donate on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at Ghiringhelli's. Bring in the uploaded flier, and 15 percent of your dine-in or take-out order goes right into Pleasant Valley's coffers. I'm not sure if you'll feel moved to order chicken, but that's entirely up to you.

There's another Dine & Donate on Wednesday, Sept. 12, which is holding for . Olive will receive 20 percent of all of the day's proceeds from folks providing a flier. All money raised goes toward the school's pursuit of a new Risograph copier. They're already halfway there! You'll need a flier, which is attached.

No need to wait for next week to get some Dine & Donate done. Today, Sept. 6, is giving 15 percent of the tab to , and all you have to do is tell them you're eating for San Ramon! Lunch? Dinner? Dine-in? Take-out? Gift cards? It all counts. Finish reading this article and head over there now.

Don't forget to join with other hearty parents to form softball teams in order to answer the age-old question of which school is the best in Novato, at least when it comes to men's or women's softball. School Fuel's tournaments are coming up. The men play the week of Sept. 17. Women step up to the plate the week of Oct. 15. See the flier for more details.

has quite a bit going on in the fundraising department. There's the car wash for the juniors at from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9. One week later, on Sunday, Sept. 16, Marin Coffee Roasters plays host to a car wash fundraiser for the AVID program from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Don't forgot, in between car washes, to go to Novato High on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 12 noon to 4:30 p.m. to enjoy the school's first carnival. It'll be a family affair, and everyone is welcome to attend and join in. Got your heart set on dunking a teacher or staffer in the dunk tank? Maybe you're into bouncy castles? A little face paint more up your alley? That's all happening — and more — at the carnival.
