Novato Police Investigating Incidents at Local Elementary Schools

The following is a news release from the Novato Police Department issued this week:

The Novato Police Department has been following up on three late reported incidents at local elementary schools during Little League games.

The following is a summary of each:

  • On 4/15 in the evening, at Rancho School a 4 year old female was talking with another juvenile, who was being supervised by her grandfather. As the 4 year old and juvenile were talking, the woman responsible for watching the 4 year old during the game noticed she was in the presence of an unknown male. The woman called to the 4 year old and the male responded he was the juveniles grandfather. The 4 year old left with the woman shortly after.

There were no reports of inappropriate interactions
and nothing to indicate any crime or attempted crime occurred.

  • On 4/26 in the morning, at Rancho School a 5 year old female was playing at the playground with another child. As the family (father, step-father and child) began to leave the park for naptime, the 5 year old followed the family towards the parking lot. The 5-year olds mother called to her and the other family left the school. All involved parties have been contacted.

There were no reports of inappropriate interactions and nothing to indicate any crime or attempted crime occurred.

  • On 4/28 in the afternoon, at Pleasant Valley a 10 year old was playing on the playground. An unknown male was observed by the playground and the parent of the child felt it suspicious and did not believe the male was associated with anyone at the park.

There were no reports of inappropriate interactions and nothing to indicate any crime or attempted crime occurred.

Novato PD sent a safety message to the community [Tuesday] upon learning of these incidents. It should be noted, none were reported immediately to either the police department or the Novato Unified School District. The school district officials and NPD communicated immediately upon learning of the reports and were able to determine there were no merits to inappropriate behavior with children. Any suspicious reports or reports of criminal activity should be reported to 911 or the non-emergency number 415-897-4361 immediately for a police response.
