Warren Michael Turner, a longtime resident of Novato, passed away Dec. 22, 2013. He was 64. Born in Chicago on May 14, 1949, he graduated from Dunbar High School and later settled in the Bay Area after serving in the U.S. Army at the Presidio. 

Warren received a Master's degree in Sociology from San Francisco State University, where he met and fell in love with his wife Monique Paerl.

Warren’s family was the pride and joy of his life. He loved all Bay Area sports teams, attending Warriors games, and was an avid golfer. He shared his profound kindness, wisdom and strength, coaching Novato CYO basketball for many years.

Warren worked with Legal Services for Children in San Francisco and was a Program Manager with Alameda County at the time of his death. Using his ability to connect and help young people in need, Warren left a lasting imprint on the lives of countless young people and those who worked with him.

Warren leaves behind his wife Monique, his children, Annika and Michael and future daughter-in-law, Ashley Carreira. He is survived by two brothers, Reuben and William (Maude); a sister Aretha and a brother-in-law, plus numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Reuben and Ida Turner and brother Eugene.

Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Quest Church in Novato. In honor of Warren's life’s work, the Warren Turner Trust Fund has been established to benefit Non Minor Dependents (NMD), underserved young people ages 18-21 as they transition after Foster Care into Adult life. Contributions can be mailed to:
