Rockabilly Band's Bus Catches Fire On I-5 In North County

The Reverend Horton Heat is booked tonight at Belly Up in Solana Beach.

CAMP PENDLETON, CA - A tour bus reportedly carrying members of rockabilly band The Reverend Horton Heat caught fire this morning on Interstate 5 near Camp Pendleton.

The occupants were able to get out of the bus as it went up in flames shortly after 4 a.m. in the southbound lanes near Las Pulgas Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. Military firefighters were summoned to subdue
the blaze.

Frontman Jim Heath told 10News it all happened fast.

"I woke the guys up as quickly as I could and tried to get them out of there because it was already filled with smoke,'' he said.

The burned bus and firefighters blocked two southbound lanes in the area into the start of the morning commute, according to the CHP.

The Reverend Horton Heat is scheduled to play tonight at the Belly Up in Solana Beach. Band members told 10News the show would go on.
