Big Rig Trailer Ignites On Northbound 55 Freeway

Orange County Fire Authority worked to douse a trailer after a big rig caught fire, Thursday.

SANTA ANA, CA — Three lanes of traffic were closed as firefighters worked a vehicle fire on the northbound 55 Freeway in Santa Ana, Thursday.

Orange County Fire Authority responded to the scene of the northbound 55 Freeway at 17th Street at 12:30 p.m. to find a large trailer engulfed in flames.

The driver exited his vehicle and detached the rig from the flaming trailer, according to California Highway Patrol. Officers closed down three northbound lanes, for fire suppression activities and clean up, for about an hour.

Northbound 55 traffic remained slow as of 1:30 p.m.

As of this report it was not known what was inside the trailer or why it caught fire.
