Body Found at Pacifica's Sharp Park Beach, Police Say

Police report the woman's body was found floating in the surf.

PACIFICA, CA – Police and coroner's officials are working Monday to identify a woman whose body was found floating in the surf off Pacifica.

According to Pacifica Police Chief Daniel Steidle, the woman was found around 7:40 p.m. Sunday. Officers were sent to the south end of Sharp Park Beach after getting a report of a body in the area.

"AMR Paramedics and North County Fire Authority were also dispatched to the scene," Steidle said in a news release. "When units arrived, a paramedic observed a female body in the water and was able to pull her onto shore."

Emergency responders immediately began "lifesaving measures," but the woman was declared dead at the scene, the chief said.

"The San Mateo County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and took possession of the body," Steidle said. "At this time, the identity of the body is unknown."

The cause of death is under investigation.
