DUI Patrols Set for New Year Weekend

Local law enforcement will be stepping up DUI patrols and checkpoints while many Angelenos celebrate the new year this weekend.

The Los Angeles Police Department, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the California Highway Patrol announced the areas they will be patrolling during the holiday weekend. The effort is paired with the AVOID Anti-DUI Program, an effort to crackdown on drunk driving and to reduce the number of injuries and deaths due to inebriated drivers.

According to the LAPD website, the areas that will have DUI patrols and sobriety checkpoints are determined as places that "have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence." In addition, the LAPD says the high-visibility patrols will hopefully raise awareness to stay safe on the roads.
