Bono Mack responds to debt deal

Rep. Mary Bono Mack, R-Palm Springs, said she voted in favor of the Budget Control Act of 2011 to avoid defaulting on America's debt.

The House passed a bill Monday to cut spending by $2.1 trillion and raise the debt ceiling until 2013.

The vote came one day before the Aug. 2 deadline for the government to begin defaulting on its loans.

Rep. Mary Bono Mack, who voted in favor of the bill, said the legislation is only a start.

"Within 25 years, interest on our nation’s debt, as well as entitlement spending, will surpass all federal revenues,'' Bono Mack said. "Tough decisions must still be made. But to save critically important programs like Social Security and Medicare, it’s imperative that we finally close the curtain on runaway deficits."

Now it is up to the senate, which will take a vote on Tuesday.
