College of the Desert’s (COD’s) Partnership and Community Education (PaCE) is offering fee-based, not for credit, Security Guard Training and Certification.
Security Guards are paid to protect! As we gear up for the season and exciting events are coming to our area, you will want to prepare yourself for the many job opportunities in the Coachella Valley.
Attend one, two or all three sessions to receive up to 24 hours of training. Each session is an 8-hour training from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Here are the session dates and their topics:
- Session 1, Saturday, March 1 (8 hours): Powers of Arrest and Weapons of Mass Destruction*
- Session II, Saturday, March 22 (8 hours): Public Relations and Observation & Documentation
- Session III, March 29 (8 hours): Liability & Legal Aspects and Communication & Its Significance.
The Security Guard skills training course follows the AB 2880 prescribed standards that meet the registration requirements of the State of California, Bureau of Security and Investigative Services.
To complete the application process, applicants must: be at least 18 years old, undergo a criminal history background check through the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and successfully complete the program and the end of course exam.
8-hour session cost is $159. Save money and bundle three sessions for $450. Please
note: additional costs to the participant include: a Live Scan-DOJ fingerprint processing fee,
FBI fee and $50 for the Security Guard Application Fee.
