Local Hospital Fined $50,000

JFK fined $50,000 for not following published procedures

One local hospital was among 14 medical facilities statewide fined a total of $825,000 for failure to comply with state licensing requirements, the California Department of Public Health reported today.

Officials said the non-compliance either caused or was likely to cause
serious injury or death to patients.

"We have a commitment to ensuring quality patient care for every
Californian,'' said Dr. Ron Chapman, CDPH director.

John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Indio was fined $50,000 for failure to follow surgical policies and procedures, resulting in a patient having to undergo a second surgery. The fine was the hospital's fifth administrative penalty, according to the CDPH.
