Overturned Semi Truck Closes Freeway Lanes in Desert Center

The left lane of the eastbound 10 reopened just after 10 a.m., and the freeway was estimated to fully reopen around 3 p.m.

DESERT CENTER, CA —A semi-truck overturned on Interstate 10 in Desert Center Wednesday, spilling nearly 100 gallons of fuel into the roadway and halting eastbound traffic in the area for much of the day.

The tractor trailer veered off eastbound 1-10 near state Route 177 for unknown reasons just before 7:30 a.m. and overturned in a dirt shoulder.

The truck driver sustained minor injuries, but was not taken to a hospital.

The California Highway Patrol reported that 60 to 80 gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the roadway and 20 gallons spilled on the dirt shoulder.

A SigAlert was issued just before 8 a.m. and traffic was diverted around the crash scene.

Caltrans crews remained on scene through the day cleaning up the spilled fuel, while a construction crews repaired a guardrail that was damaged in the crash.

The left lane of the eastbound 10 reopened just after 10 a.m., and the freeway was fully reopened to drivers just before 4 p.m.
