Plane Flips While Landing At Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport

The aircraft emergency call came in about 12:45 p.m. Friday.

THERMAL, CA — A single-engine aircraft flipped over while landing Friday at the Thermal airport, but the pilot escaped injury.

The mishap involving the Jabiru J230 light-sport aircraft was reported about 12:25 p.m. at Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport, located at 56-850 Higgins Drive, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

FAA spokeswoman Arlene Salac said the pilot was the only person on board.

Responding firefighters encountered a small plane "on its roof," according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Deonna Pecoraro told KESQ the pilot encountered some unspecified issues during landing due to weather conditions.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate, Salac said.
