Second Suspect Arrested in La Quinta Kidnapping, Robbery

A second suspect in a local kidnapping and robbery case was behind bars Wednesday.

Alex Lopez, 20, of La Quinta, was arrested Tuesday night at Calle Tampico, near Avenida Bermudas, for allegedly carjacking, kidnapping, and robbing a man who gave him a ride, sheriff's officials reported Wednesday evening.

He was booked into the Indio Jail on suspicion of carjacking, robbery, kidnapping to commit robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.

He remained behind bars Wednesday in lieu of $250,000 bail, pending arraignment Friday at the Larson Justice Center, sheriff's jail records indicate.

He -- along with Jesus Jonathan Garcia, 21 -- is suspected of robbing a driver who gave the men a ride, then taking him out to the desert, where they put him out of the vehicle.

The alleged crimes occurred about 2:15 a.m. Nov. 27, according to Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Mike Tapp.

The victim had given two men a ride, and the one sitting in back pulled out a gun and robbed the driver, Tapp said in a news release.

They took the victim out to the desert and let him go, the sergeant said. The cops were called from the area of Avenue 52 and Jefferson Street, the sergeant wrote.

Jesus Jonathan Garcia, 21, was arrested at 48580 El Arco St., in Coachella, the day after the alleged kidnapping.

He remained behind bars Wednesday in lieu of $1 million bail, pending arraignment next Monday, jail records indicate.
