UPDATE: Caltrain Fatality May Have Been Suicide

A man was struck and killed by Caltrain at the Palo Alto station at approximately 7:30 p.m. Monday evening. A preliminary investigation by Caltrain indicates that the man acted intentionally.

The man, a 24-year-old Sunnyvale resident, was struck by train No. 284. The train was stopped north of the Stanford station until 8:39 p.m., according to a statement released by Christine Dunn, public information officer for the San Mateo County Transit District.

Approximately 115 passengers were onboard the train, and emergency personnel had already left the scene by 8:45 p.m.

At this time, all trains are running in both directions.

This death is the fourth for Caltrain this year. There were 11 fatalities on the Caltrain right-of-way in 2010, of which nine were determined to be suicides. Two others are pending investigation.
