Palo Alto Teen a Finalist in Intel Science Talent Search Contest

Gunn High School senior Charles Xin Liu has been chosen as a finalist in the prestigious  Intel Science Talent Search competition.

In March he’ll travel to Washington, D.C. to compete for prizes, including a $100,000 scholarship.

Charles’ project: Integrated Meta-analysis of 64 Diseases Identifies Novel Relationship Between Systemic Sclerosis and Systemic Lupus erythematosus.

The total awards from the Intel Foundation this year will be $1.25 million.

In addition to providing much-needed scholarship money, winning the competition opens doors. Past winners have gone on to win eight Nobel prizes, five National Medals of Science and 11 MacArthur Foundation Fellowships among other distinguished recognitions.
