The Palo Alto Unified School District's Director of Elementary Education, Kathleen Meagher, announced that she will be leaving the district at the end of the school year to step into the Director of Secondary Education position for the Arlington Public School District in Arlington, Virginia.
Meagher has led the Elementary Education Department for four years and was a teacher and principal in PAUSD prior to entering this position in 2010.
“I have learned a great deal alongside tremendously talented people dedicated to providing the highest quality educational experience possible for our students," Meagher said in a release. "My work here has enabled me to grow as an educator and a leader.”
Meagher started in PAUSD in 1995 as a first grade teacher at Fairmeadow Elementary School where she taught for five years before becoming the Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment and Peer Assessment Review Coordinator in 2001.
In 2004, she left PAUSD to become the Assistant Principal at Los Alto High School.
She returned to PAUSD in 2007 as Principal at Duveneck Elementary School before becoming the Director of Elementary Education in 2010.
Dr. Skelly commented, “Ms. Meagher has provided wonderful leadership to our elementary schools and principals and has also provided innovative leadership for many instructional initiatives during her four years as Director of Elementary Education. Her efforts on behalf of students and staff will be felt for years to come. We wish her all the best in her new position.”
