Woman Walking Child to School Badly Hurt in Collision
A mother walking her young child to school in Palo Alto this morning suffered major injuries when a juvenile driver struck her in a residential neighborhood near Stanford University, police said.

The Palo Alto Police Department answered a call to its dispatch center at 7:48 a.m. today from the juvenile driver who reported colliding with a pedestrian in the 3800 block of La Donna Avenue, police Lt. Zack Perron said.

Police officers and first responders from the Palo Alto Fire Department arrived and found a woman in her 30s who was unconscious and suffering major injuries, Perron said.

The woman's child was not hurt in the accident, police said.

The fire department transported the woman to a local hospital and her condition is not known, according to police.

"We are keeping our fingers crossed" for her," Perron said. The juvenile driver cooperated with investigating officers at the scene and was not arrested, Perron said.

The accident remains under investigation by the Police Department's Specialized Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team, he said.
