Christmas Brunch

Nestled between two beautiful front and back gardens, this house has sheltered a gregarious family over changing years. The “girls bedroom” is now the grandchildren’s playroom. The small kitchen and eating area have pushed the walls outward until now the dining room table can seat 12, and can even be added onto when the crowd grows. The kitchen is now to dream about with sparkling abalone tiles and white marble countertops. The more formal front living room is undoubtedly bypassed for the comfort of the sofa and TV by the back windows overlooking the patio and garden, with easy access to the working kitchen. Built in cupboards make clever use of a tiny hall linking front and back. When the walls were pushed out the master suite became a bright sanctuary, sheltered from the street, but open to the garden. Deep chairs by the fireplace add to the restful illusion and illusion it probably is, since this is a full-time working family.

Christmas Day

Perched on the cliffs above the ocean looking out over the Channel Islands, there could not be a more beautiful setting for a home. Built to preserve a magnificent Aleppo pine tree in its own front yard park, the house settles back from the street surrounded by lush plantings. We enter directly into the view as wide windows edge the living room and a patio just beyond.  To our right is the luxurious master suite. The huge bed is framed by antique floor to ceiling cabinets. An armoire anchors the windows from across the room. The dining room, family room, kitchen and other bedrooms flank the front hall to our left. Natural black walnut flooring gives subtle richness. Crystal chandeliers sparkle in the living and dining rooms. Our talented hostess is a collector and a needlepoint artist. Examples of her skill abound. A lighted set of shelves lines the wall in one of the bedrooms to display her eclectic doll collection. Antiques and American Girl dolls to push button modern dancing characters make a fun display.

Celebrate Christmas
Historical Haggarty Mansion

Jewel of the Peninsula, the Haggarty Mansion was one of the first, largest and most elaborate custom homes of its time. In 1927 it was built as a family oasis on a coveted cliffside location with unobstructed ocean views. Featuring soaring coffered ceilings, hand-painted, gilded murals, carved stone capitals and sconces, and magnificent hand wrought iron gates.

Eventually languishing unused, the home was purchased for $60,000 and gradually became Neighborhood Church. Many of the home’s original features have been preserved and restored while adding the world famous Glatter-Glötz organ, many beautiful stained glass windows and original art work. Enjoy seeing the rooms that have been shown in Ron Howard’s film Frost/Nixon. Overlooking the ocean, you may walk the comtemplative path of a spectacular, hand-crafted Memorial Labyrinth; designed in the pattern of Chartres Cathedral Labyrinth built in 1200 AD.

Neighborhood Church

This is the 56th year of the Yule Parlor Parade and, for all those many years, Tea at the Church has been a large part of the success that has allowed the Women’s Fellowship to give so generously to South Bay charities.  Who can resist delicate homemade cookies, turkey-filled puffs and freshly made and garnished sandwiches?  We invite you to listen to music as you sip tea or punch while you browse the Vintage Shop, a successful feature added last year.  This Shop has treasures from furniture to delicate china and glass donated from local attics.  The weather is usually fine so the patio is prepared for seating with the boutiques close at hand.  Crafts from the Yule Shop and home-baked goodies will send you home happy.

Our Annual Tea

After touring the church, we invite you to listen to music as you sip tea and enjoy freshly made sandwiches and cookies either in our Fellowship all or on our seaside patio.

Holiday Shopping

Visit our Yule Shop, Vintage Shop, and Bake Shop to top off your festive day.  You will find one-of-a-kind hand-made crafts and holiday accents in our Yule Shop, Scrumptious home-made baked goods in our Bake Shop, and fabulous treasures in our new Vintage Shop.

Enjoy a true “taste” of the holiday season…
