PVE Moves to Reorganize Staff

As a result of the , the Palos Verdes Estates City Council on Tuesday night voted to approve administrative staff reorganization that is estimated to save the city thousands of dollars in salary costs for the current fiscal year.

The reorganization will result in a net loss of 1.5 full time positions than existed in the city service during fiscal year 2010-11. The changes will eliminate the deputy city clerk and code enforcement officer positions, but will add a part time office specialist.

During the current fiscal year, 2011-12, the city will save about $167,600 in salaries resulting from the reorganization, not including associated benefit savings, according to a report from Smith.

Changes included in the reorganization:

  • Combination of the executive assistant to the city manager and city council and the deputy city clerk positions to the position “executive assistant/deputy city clerk” reporting to the city manager.
  • Creation of a new position within the city service designated as “assistant to the city manager” reporting to the city manager and promoted from within the city staff.   
  • Combination of the modified duties and responsibilities of the administrative analyst and the current duties and responsibilities of the code enforcement officer to the existing position of “administrative analyst” reporting to the assistant to the city manager (personnel) and to the public works director (code enforcement) and promoted from within the city staff.
  • Creation of a new position within the Public Service Employees association of “office specialist,” reporting to the executive assistant/deputy city clerk to fill the position on a part-time basis.
