Pasadena Explosion: Man Tosses Small Explosive Into Crowded Restaurant

Police and federal authorities are looking for a man who threw a homemade explosive into a Pasadena Cheesecake Factory Thursday: BREAKING.

PASADENA, CA — Diners at the Cheesecake Factory in Pasadena were given a scare Thursday when a man tossed a homemade explosive inside the restaurant and fled the scene.

The small explosion sent patrons running for cover, but no one was hurt according to Pasadena police. Police evacuated the restaurant and are searching for the bearded suspect who remains at large.

Witnesses described the suspect as 6 feet tall, thin build, with a heavy beard and wearing all black clothing and a black beanie.

"Pasadena Police Detectives are currently handling the investigation and out of an abundance of caution the federal authorities have been notified," a Pasadena police statement said.

The motive is not known, police said.

The frightening incident happened just after 6 p.m. Thursday at the Cheesecake Factory’s Old Town location at 2 W. Colorado Blvd. Police are describing the explosive as a homemade pyrotechnic device made with gunpowder.
