Badly Burned Body Found in Santa Rosa Car Fire

By Bay City News

A badly burned body was recovered from a car fire at a San Jose park in Santa Rosa Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

The fire was reported at about 3:50 p.m. at the "A Place to Play" park at 2375 W. Third St., Sgt. David Linscomb said.

As firefighters were putting out the fire, they found the body of a person who was partially out of the driver's side door, Linscomb said.

The body was severely burned to the point that gender and identity could not be confirmed, but investigators believe the victim was likely male, Linscomb said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Based on witness accounts, there is no evidence of foul play, Linscomb said, but how the car caught on fire and how the person died is still not clear.

Police are continuing to investigate the death.
