Petaluma Arrest Made In Suspected Hit And Run That Injured Woman

PETALUMA - Petaluma police arrested a Mendocino County man on suspicion of a hit-and-run that injured a woman last weekend.

Police said a large black Ford truck broad-sided a minivan occupied by a female driver and two children ages 4 and 9 on Baywood and Crinella drives around 5:45 p.m. Sunday.

The truck driver, later identified as Christopher Nelson, 60, of Leggett, then fled the scene in his vehicle.

The minivan driver suffered two broken ribs when the truck struck the driver's door.

Police received details about the crash, including a photo of the vehicles, from people at the scene.

After identifying and searching for Nelson, he was eventually found days later, police said.

According to police, he admitted during an interview that he saw children in the vehicle and panicked.

Nelson was arrested at about 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Petaluma Police Department on suspicion of hit-and-run and was booked into Sonoma County Jail.
