Reminder: The Bay Area Children’s Theatre (BACT) opens its 10th Anniversary Season, Saturday, with an exuberant new stage version of Dr. Seuss’s brilliant classic, The Cat in the Hat.

THE CAT IN THE HATplays June 29 – August 4, on Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. and Sundays at 10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Children’s Fairyland, 699 Bellevue Avenue, Oakland.

The show then moves to the Marin Theatre Company, 397 Miller Avenue, Mill Valley, where it will play August 10 - August 18, Saturdays and Sundays at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

“Our artistic team has really taken the spirit of this iconic book to heart in bringing it into the three-dimensional world,” said BACT Executive Director Nina Meehan.  “Children and their families will recognize the color palette and the feel and shape of the story they love.”

Originally produced by the National Theatre of Great Britain and adapted and originally directed by Katie Mitchell, THE CAT IN THE HAT features Doyle Ott as everybody’s favorite juggling feline. The familiar rhymes and rhythms of the original tale will be underscored with amusing sound effects created live onstage.

We believe in the power of theatre to build community, spark creativity, and introduce children to the larger world in which we live.

·         Encourage young people to explore literature, language, and the arts by producing stage adaptations of great children’s books

·         Engage pre-kindergartners in the world of theatre with productions specially designed for them

·         Develop and perform exciting new work for the stage

·         Reach out to children who might not otherwise experience live theatre with free tickets and touring productions at local schools, libraries and community centers

·         Create touring productions for young audiences nationwide
