UPDATE: Oakland Firefighter Injured in Adams Point Blaze

Bay City News--A two-alarm fire was in progress this afternoon at a three-story apartment building in Oakland where a firefighter was injured battling a blaze earlier today, fire officials said. The latest fire at 273 MacArthur Boulevard, near Adams Street and Interstate Highway 580, was reported at 2:13 p.m. and immediately went to two alarms, according to a fire department dispatcher.

The first fire was reported at 10:28 a.m. and controlled by 10:54 a.m., according to Battalion Chief Adrian Sheppard. An Oakland firefighter was hospitalized with second-degree burns after helping to battle a one-alarm fire at a three-story apartment building this morning, Sheppard said.

The morning blaze was contained to one unit on the third floor and no residents were injured, Sheppard said. A total of 21 firefighters responded to the fire, he said.

One person was displaced by the blaze and will receive help from the American Red Cross in arranging alternate housing, Sheppard said.

The apartment complex was evacuated during the fire but everyone except the resident in the one affected unit has been allowed to return, according to Sheppard.

The causes of both fires remain under investigation.
