Oakland Police Department Welcomes 20 New Police Recruits
The recruits will will now enter OPD's 4th Transitional Academy.
On Monday, September 22, 2014, the Oakland Police Department accepted 20 new police recruits, a welcome addition to the Department that increases current staffing to 684. When the 170th Academy graduates on October 31, 2014, the Department will have over 700 officers. We continue our efforts to grow the Police Department and increase public safety in the City of Oakland.
The 20 recruits, graduates of the Alameda County Sheriffβs Office 151st Regular Basic Course and other Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified academies, will now enter OPDβs 4th Transitional Academy, where they will focus on Oakland Police Department principles, practices and procedures specific to the City which were not addressed in their respective Academies.
Thirteen recruits graduated from the Alameda County Sheriffβs Office 151st Regular Basic Course: Abel Alcantar, Jason Amarant, Pavel DelMonte, Louis Forneris, Colin Gardner, Kyle Gaskin, Kevin Godchaux, Francis Hammon, Kyle Hazen, John Hutchison, Samson Kong, Sean Lewis, and Ryan Walterhouse.

Seven recruits graduated from POST-certified academies: Jobin Acedillo, Josef Callaghan, Marcos Gocobachi, Scott Lamphiear, Nicole Pifari, Ethan Porter, and Kent Kenery.
