Oakland Police Warn Residents of Recent Rash of Home Invasion Robberies

Police officials offer tips on how to better protect your home from criminals.

Oakland Police Warn Residents of Recent Rash of Home Invasion Robberies

The Oakland Police Department has recently seen an increase in home invasion robberies. Reports received describe assailants entering the residence via an unlocked door or forcing entry. In many of these cases the homes have been occupied by the residents.

This information is provided in an attempt to bring awareness and education so we all can be safe.

The Oakland Police Department’s Patrol and Criminal Investigations Divisions are diligently coordinating efforts to identify criminal offenders and implement enforcement and prevention strategies. Our Neighborhood Service Coordinators are working with residents to bring awareness and education to our communities.

As a reminder personal safety is always a priority. Property can be replaced.

Please see the safety tips listed below.

In The Home

  • Keep doors and windows locked at all times. If you choose to leave windows partially open during times of warm weather, secure windows to prevent intruders.
  • Keep the exterior of your home well lit and shrubbery trimmed back.
  • Make sure you have strong locks on your doors – deadbolts that extend an inch and a half are preferred.
  • Install a wide angle viewer in the door.
  • If someone tries to break into your home while you are inside, immediately call 911. If possible, leave the house. If you are not able to get out of the house lock or barricade yourself inside a room.
  • Report suspicious persons or vehicles. Provide as much information as possible, including the time you noticed the person, the vehicle, and the clothing worn.
