Piedmont Resident Will Head Oakland Rotary
Michael Bruck, a former Piedmont mayor, will be inducted as president of the Rotary Club of Oakland on July 11.
Piedmont resident Michael Bruck will be inducted as the 105th president of the Rotary Club of Oakland on July 11. An attorney and long-time civic leader, Bruck has been a member of the Oakland service club for 32 years.
“I was attracted by Rotary's unique combination of service, networking and fellowship. I remain committed because Rotary continues to improve the quality of life for those in our community and in the world community, connects the business and community leaders in the club and promotes meaningful relationships among the members of the club,” he said.
Community service is very much a part of Bruck’s life. He has served as a board member and president of the University of California, Santa Barbara Alumni Association for six years and a board member and President of the Oakland SPCA (now East Bay SPCA) for 12 years. He chaired Piedmont’s Centennial Celebration, served as a Piedmont Park Commission Member and council member, vice mayor and Mayor of Piedmont.
The Rotary Club of Oakland was founded more than 100 years ago and with more than 300 members, is one the largest service clubs in the Bay Area. Club members dedicate time, talent and treasure to a range of programs from helping children to read and transition to kindergarten to working with Oakland high school students to develop business skills. The Club has a long tradition of providing service abroad, as well, from installing wells to eradicating polio.
“Rotary’s strength comes from the combined efforts of business and professional people who want to give back to the community and who want to meet and work with other like-minded people. It is the place where business meets community service,” said Bruck.
